WHAT IS TAGALOG ON SITE?

Tagalog On Site (TOS) is a registered, non-stock, non-profit organization that seeks to provide a holistic introduction to Philippine history, culture and contemporary life through study-abroad programs to the Philippines. Our programs provide:

  • Intensive Filipino (Tagalog) language instruction in beginning, intermediate and advanced levels
  • Lectures and workshops on Philippine history, Filipino psychology, politics, culture, contemporary issues and the arts
  • Community interaction and immersion activities that provide an experiential approach to understanding Philippine life.

Tagalog On Site programs were originally designed to cater to second- and third-generation Filipino Americans. In recent years, TOS has come to acknowledge the unique challenges that have resulted from the mass migration of Filipinos all over the world. As such, TOS seeks to address the needs of all Filipinos of the diaspora and is now open to accept European Filipinos, Australian Filipinos and other individuals, including those not of Filipino descent, who believe that participating in our programs will provide a deeper understanding of the Philippines.

REDISCOVERY

NEWS AND FEATURES

tos_mascot"I found out about Tagalog On Site through my Tagalog class, hearing nothing but praise about the program. It was a journey of discovery and rediscovery. I travelled to the Philippines by myself for the first time. I developed close relationships with 16 Pilipino/American peers. We immersed ourselves in Pilipino culture, gathering knowlege about our heritage and piecing together our identities. New knowledge brought more questions, often fragmenting old beliefs. Rediscovering one's roots called for a rethinking of one's past, but the process was constantly in motion, never stagnant. We felt specially chosen as our eyes and ears were open and filled with knowledge about Pilipino history, culture, identity, and Pilipino/American issues."

"Thank you for allowing me to be part of a program that gave me the most amazing summer of my life. I show my friends my pictures sometimes, and they can't believe all of the places I've been to, the experiences I got to live, and the stories I have to tell."

- John Andres, TOS Summer 2003
